BUT I HEAR VIOLINS WHEN I CLOSE MY EYES. Caphri is an Enchanter, amateur alchemist and budding botanist. He is a Haiben-Nyx, or as they are known more colloquially, a Half-Night. Caphri is kind, curious, and honest, without a manipulative bone in his body. He is preternaturally quiet; his footsteps are silent, and he will never raise his voice beyond what is conversationally appropriate. But do not mistake his sweet and reserved nature for naivete and weakness. Knowing cruelty since he was first brought into the world, Caphri has become world-wise and has taken every precaution to protect himself and his home. He is stronger than he appears, and it is in the best interest of most everyone on the island to leave him to his peace. Physical: When Caphri stands at full-height, he is roughly 5'10"; however, this is rarely the case, as he has a perpetual slump to his shoulders that drops his height to about 5"7. As a half-night, his large eyes are a solid matte-black; not only do they not reflect a single bit of light, but it's almost as if they seem to absorb it. When Caphri is around, rooms seem to get just a little dimmer, somehow. Short, mousy brown hair crowns his head; no matter where he is, it seems to toss and float about his head as though cradled by an unseen, magic breeze. A small pair of small, black-rimmed glasses sit upon a tiny, pert nose and the large triangular ears that frame his head always seem to twitch with every little emotion that flits upon the enchanter's face. He walks with an unusually slow, languid gait, as though he walks underwater. In bright light, his skin appears fairly normal: lightly tanned and wind-chafed. Devoid of light, however, the true nature of his species truly shines. When in shadow, his skin turns will fade into deeply saturated jewel tones of reds and purples; and underneath the skin will peek out the glittering crystalline structure just beneath. Pinpricks of light sparkle like stars just beneath the skin, visible only in shadow. |
